Alison MacLeod joined KP’s public relations division in 2006, where she has managed strategic communications programs for corporate, non-profit and government clients throughout the state. Ms. MacLeod is experienced in media relations, coalition building, project siting and has run grassroots outreach and community education programs for a variety of clients.
She has managed high profile business community coalitions on complex policy issues including tax reform, energy and climate change policy, and the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). These projects involved increasing public awareness about the issue and bringing new voices to the table to shape the debate. For the coalition “Californians for Affordable and Reliable Energy,” Ms. MacLeod managed economic research projects, conducted outreach and media relations, and activated supporters including regional business groups, community organizations, small businesses, local elected officials and statewide stakeholders to influence legislative proposals.
Ms. MacLeod also managed the day to day public relations for the California Society of Anesthesiologists (CSA). In addition to supporting CSA’s advocacy goals through politically-oriented stakeholder and media outreach, her work involved raising the association’s profile with key influencers, securing media coverage, providing membership communication and recruitment, and event marketing.
She has also worked on behalf of career colleges to increase public awareness about how these schools fill a higher education gap and provide a pathway to success for many non-traditional students. Ms. MacLeod has extensive experience in managing local public affairs efforts for siting projects including wind and solar energy, as well as tribal casino developments. In 2009-2010, Ms. MacLeod provided public relations services related to the legislative campaign to protect the single sales factor tax credit for California businesses, through both the California Competes Coalition and the No on Prop. 24 effort.
Ms. MacLeod graduated with Highest Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, and was awarded Distinction in the Major for her undergraduate research activities. Prior to joining KP Public Affairs, Ms. MacLeod took graduate courses in global communication and journalism from the Danish School of Journalism and the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
