Professional Experience

Alison MacLeod joined KP’s public relations division in 2006, where she has worked to develop and implement strategic communications programs for corporate, non-profit and government clients throughout the state. Ms. MacLeod is experienced in media relations, coalition building, project siting and has managed grassroots outreach and community education programs for a variety of clients.

Ms. MacLeod has extensive experience in managing public affairs outreach efforts for development and siting projects across the state. She has run local campaigns to build awareness and community support for energy projects including Invenergy, Excelaron and Silverado Power. Similarly, Ms. MacLeod managed the creation of a Community Advisory Group in Northern California that provided support for a tribal gaming enterprise.

Ms. MacLeod also managed a statewide coalition project for the California Building Industry Association that was successful in shaping a California Air Resources Board policy to more directly address key industry implementation concerns. In an effort to promote the small business perspective on California’s greenhouse gas reduction policies, Ms. MacLeod worked with a partnership of statewide small business organizations to provide input into the regulatory process and shape public understanding of the issue. By educating media about academic research related to the impacts on small business, and connecting reporters with key spokespeople, she was able to secure coverage of the small business view in local and top tier media outlets statewide and at the national level.

In 2009-2010, Ms. MacLeod provided public relations services related to the legislative campaign to protect the single sales factor tax credit for California businesses, through both the California Competes Coalition and the No on Prop. 24 effort. From 2006-2009 she provided day to day public affairs, media relations and awareness building related to protecting the state’s Enterprise Zone program.

Ms. MacLeod graduated with Highest Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, and was awarded Distinction in the Major for her undergraduate research activities. Prior to joining KP Public Affairs, Ms. MacLeod took graduate courses in global communication and journalism from the Danish School of Journalism and the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
