Professional Experience

Bryce W.A. Docherty is a Partner at KP Public Affairs and leads the healthcare advocacy practice. For nearly 20 years, Mr. Docherty has represented a vast array of healthcare and medical interests before all areas of state government, including physicians and surgeons, pharmacists, mid-level healthcare providers, medical device manufacturers and health facilities. Prior to joining KP Public Affairs, Mr. Docherty was President & CEO of The Docherty Group. The Docherty Group was an independent, select and boutique full-service consulting, government relations and association management firm specializing in lobbying and advocacy representation before the California Legislature, agency and regulatory bodies. He also currently serves as Executive Director of the California Orthotic & Prosthetic Association, whose members restore function to those patients suffering from limb loss and birth defects. Mr. Docherty is also an Adjunct Professor at Touro University specializing in grassroots lobbying and the importance of political advocacy.

Mr. Docherty has been responsible for the overall direction, integrity and strategic success of such efforts as restoring benefit coverage in the Medi-Cal Program for healthcare services and devices slated for state budget cuts, as well as building diverse support coalitions for major policy objectives such as implementing the largest overhaul of the Physician Assistant Practice Act since its inception more than 30 years ago. Prior to establishing his firm, Mr. Docherty was the Associate Director of Government Relations for the California Medical Association – the largest statewide physician trade association in the country. He has also served as Director of Government Relations and Assistant Director for other California based healthcare trade associations and non-profit charitable foundations. He also has experience before the Michigan Legislature as a legislative advocate for the Michigan State Medical Society.

Mr. Docherty lives in Sacramento, California with his wife Selena, a registered nurse and daughter Eleanor.


Mr. Docherty received his Bachelor Degree in International Relations from Michigan State University and earned a Master of Public Administration Degree from the University of Southern California.
