Professional Experience

Mr. Sickenger represents the firm's environmental and business clients before the legislature, the administration and various regulatory agencies on a broad range of environmental policy issues. His work includes a focus on chemical policy issues, and he is co-leader of KP’s recently announced Green Chemistry Practice. He has been engaged in the ongoing development of the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Green Chemistry Initiative and recently signed legislation requiring regulation of priority chemicals in consumer products.

Mr. Sickenger joined KP Public Affairs in 2003 after serving as the Director of Environmental Quality for the California Manufacturers and Technology Association (CMTA) where he focused on land use, air quality, water quality, water supply, solid waste and hazardous waste issues. Prior to working for CMTA he worked for the Western States Petroleum Association on local and state environmental regulatory issues, including air toxics policy, hazardous waste and water quality issues. Mr. Sickenger was actively engaged in major regulatory actions, including the California Air Resources Board's listing of diesel exhaust as a Toxic Air Contaminant and the state's comprehensive, multi-media review of the gasoline additive methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE).

Mr. Sickenger also coordinated coalition activities and communications for "The Thursday Group," a coalition of business organizations whose primary function is to engage the legislature and the administration on anti-business environmental legislation. Mr. Sickenger applies this experience in his practice at KP Public Affairs, frequently organizing and managing coalitions in support of client objectives.

Education

Mr. Sickenger graduated from UC Davis with a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Planning and Management.
