Professional Experience

Matt Reilly joined KP in 2009 to expand the public affairs practice with his unique set of talents and experiences in the campaign and legislative arenas. His work includes consulting for statewide coalitions, initiative campaigns and the development of signature public outreach campaigns for clients focusing in districts throughout California.

Prior to joining KP, Mr. Reilly was the head of Assembly Democrats’ successful 2008 General Election campaign effort that saw them expand the caucus by three seats. It was the first time this decade that legislative seats had changed parties under the 2001 redistricting, with Assembly Democrats winning four Republican-held seats.

Mr. Reilly also worked closely with the members of the Democratic Caucus, assisting many of them in their campaigns prior to being elected. He continued his close work with members as the Director of the Speaker’s Office of Member Services from 2004 to 2009, first for Speaker Fabian Nunez, and then under Assembly Speaker Karen Bass. The office provides legislative, media and research services to members of the Democratic Caucus with offices in Sacramento and Southern California.

In this role and as head of the Assembly campaign apparatus, Mr. Reilly managed message development for members and candidates, production of millions of direct mail pieces, development and production of TV advertisement, and direction of large staff operations.

Mr. Reilly previously served as Senior Counselor to former Majority Leader Dario Frommer (ret.) where he assisted with Frommer’s operation of the Assembly floor. He also served as Chief of Staff to then-Assemblywoman Patricia Wiggins, where focus was placed on land-use, labor and wine industry policy.

He resides in Sacramento with his wife, Tahiza Landeros, and family, Mario, Alex, and Mateo.

Education

Mr. Reilly holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California, Davis.
