Professional Experience

Paul Deiro joined KP Public Affairs in 2008 as a lobbyist and plays a leadership role in providing strategic counsel to KP and its clients on the State Budget. Mr. Deiro has effectively navigated many clients through the budget process to both protect their interests and secure favorable outcomes. His legislative and policy making experience encompasses key positions within three Administrations, both houses of the California state legislature and the U.S. Senate.

Most recently, Mr. Deiro served as Chief of Staff in the State Senate where he played a significant role in healthcare reform, medical scope of practice and taxation. Prior to his move to the Senate, Mr. Deiro worked in the Assembly as a Senior Fiscal Consultant working on four State Budgets. His budget portfolio included state revenues and expenditures, tax policy, energy, telecommunications, and housing.

Additionally, Mr. Deiro was chosen to be the Chief Consultant to the Assembly Housing and Community Development Committee.

Mr. Deiro started his career on Capitol Hill working for U.S. Senator Peter Wilson. Upon winning the Gubernatorial election in 1990, Mr. Deiro moved to Sacramento to work in the Wilson Administration where he held several key positions focusing on local government finance and realignment, land use, housing, economic development, and banking.

Mr. Deiro has served as a guest lecturer on healthcare reform at CSU Sacramento and participated on several panels related to water/flood control and banking.

Mr. Deiro and his wife have two children. They are active in their school and parish community.
