Professional Experience
Alison Stauffer joined KP’s public relations division in 2006, where she has worked to develop and implement strategic communications programs for corporate, non-profit and government clients throughout the state. Ms. Stauffer is experienced in media relations, coalition building, project siting and has managed grassroots outreach and community education programs for a variety of clients.
Ms. Stauffer has extensive experience in managing public relations for tribal governments in California. She has strengthened local partnerships and inter-governmental relationships, and managed the media relations and community outreach activities for Native American tribes in Northern and Southern California. She also handles the day-to-day public affairs, media relations and grassroots awareness building related to the state’s Enterprise Zone program. In this capacity, Ms. Stauffer works with the business community to educate the public and decision-makers about one of the state’s most important economic development tools.
In an effort to help navigate California’s prison crisis, Ms. Stauffer conducted research and provided message development and collateral materials for the California Correctional Peace Officers Association. She also created the marketing campaign to educate growers, retailers, consumers and the media about the Protected Harvest program for certifying sustainable agriculture productions. Ms. Stauffer created the marketing materials and an informational video for the non-profit organization to publicize the program and effectively communicate the value of environmental stewardship in farming.
Ms. Stauffer’s previous experience includes working at City TV 18, the government access channel in Santa Barbara, where she coordinated many of the production elements for a monthly news-magazine show.
Education
Ms. Stauffer graduated with Highest Honors from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, and was awarded Distinction in the Major for her undergraduate research activities. Prior to joining KP Public Affairs, Ms. Stauffer took graduate courses in global communication and journalism from the Danish School of Journalism and the University of Aarhus, Denmark.
During her tenure at UC Santa Barbara, Ms. Stauffer conducted an extensive study about voting trends and tested which media and political messages resonate most with young voters. Her senior thesis was awarded the Steven H. Chaffee Award for Excellence in Research and the UC Santa Barbara Emeriti prize.
