The KP Public Affairs team caught up with Hannah Wiley who recently joined the Los Angeles Times – Sacramento Bureau from The Sacramento Bee.

Wiley has covered almost every major topic in the California Capitol and throughout state agencies for the last several years, including housing legislation, new vaccine rules, the COVID-19 pandemic, education policy and homelessness. In her new role at the LA Times, she’ll keep reporting on several of those issues but will likely focus a bit more on criminal justice and housing, along with campaign finance and lobbying.

The entire bureau is gearing up for the 2022 primaries and midterm elections, and Hannah will be keeping a close eye on ballot measures related to some of the big-ticket items above. She’ll also elevate coverage of state agencies and how they implement regulations, anything from new environmental rules to additional prison requirements.

Before joining the Los Angeles Times, Wiley worked at The Sacramento Bee covering the Legislature and state politics. Hannah earned a bachelor’s degree in political journalism and Italian at Saint Louis University before joining Teach for America as an English teacher in Nashville. She graduated in June 2018 with her master’s in investigative reporting out of Northwestern’s Medill School of Journalism.
