Alex Traverso has more than 20 years of experience working in the public relations industry, most recently served as Deputy Director of External Affairs for the California Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD). Prior to his appointment by the Newsom Administration to HCD, he previously worked for the Bureau of Cannabis Control, California Lottery, State Assembly, as well as former Governor Gray Davis in Sacramento.
Experience:
- Conducted the engagement and outreach activities for the Department of Housing & Community Development.
- Chief spokesman for the lead agency regulating the commercial cannabis industry in California. Created social media sites that now have more than 30,000 followers.
- Chief Spokesman for the California Lottery, a $6 billion a year business, crafted internal and external communication plans as well as social media sites that now rank #1 out of all state lotteries.
- Communications Director for former Assembly Member Levine, created media events, press materials, web content and newsletters.
- Deputy Press Secretary for former Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez, coordinating press conferences for the Speaker and other Members.
- Public Relations Manager at the California Exposition & State Fair dealing with all media inquiries and served as spokesperson Cal Expo and the State Fair.
- Served as the Assistant Press Secretary for former Governor Gray Davis – kept the media informed of the Governor’s appearances, determined content of informational statements and press releases based on close communication with various state agencies.
